Rhodes Memorial Guide: History, Views, Hiking & Visitor Tips

Rhodes Memorial view of Table Mountain and city

One evening after driving back from Cavendish Square, my fiancé asked, “Want to go to Rhodes Memorial?” Before I could answer, we turned the car and headed there.

We arrived about thirty minutes before the park closed, just in time to see some of it. The area buzzed with activity: runners, cyclists, walkers, and people climbing the stone steps. Everyone moved around with purpose while I stood taking in the scene.

The memorial offers an impressive panorama—Table Mountain rising in the distance, the city spread below, and the memorial’s classical architecture framing the view. The combination of natural and built elements made the spot feel cinematic.

There is a small restaurant on the site, but it was closed when we visited. That means we’ll be back to enjoy lunch and take in the view at a more leisurely pace.

Even in that brief visit, the place left a strong impression. Whether you’re there for exercise, a quiet moment, or to admire the vistas, Rhodes Memorial makes a memorable stop on any Cape Town outing.
