This is one of my all-time favorite smoothies and it works beautifully for breakfast, lunch or any time you need a quick boost. Our whole family enjoys this Strawberry Grapefruit Smoothie because it’s fresh, vibrant and effortless to make. The color alone is stunning, and the bright citrus note from the grapefruit balances the sweetness of the strawberries and banana perfectly. I often find myself reluctant to share—it’s that good!

The recipe truly requires only four ingredients and takes about five minutes from start to finish. I love ruby red grapefruit for its sweetness and vibrant color, and it pairs exceptionally well with frozen strawberries. Using a frozen banana helps achieve a chilled, creamy texture without watering down the drink. If the smoothie comes out too thick, a splash more orange juice will loosen it up while adding a little extra citrus brightness.

A high-quality blender makes a big difference. I use a Vitamix and after trimming the grapefruit I usually add it to the blender whole — the machine handles the work. If you don’t have a high-speed blender, simply peel the grapefruit segments to remove membranes before blending for a smoother texture. The result is a consistently silky smoothie with a balanced sweet-tart flavor.

This smoothie is also very adaptable. You can add a tablespoon of chia or flax seeds for fiber, a scoop of protein powder for extra staying power, or a handful of frozen kale for an extra serving of greens. These additions won’t overpower the pleasing strawberry-grapefruit flavor and can help customize the drink to match your nutritional goals.
