The Strawberries

Start with fresh, ripe, large strawberries that have been washed and patted dry. Keeping the green stems on makes dipping easier and gives the finished berries a nicer presentation, but you can hull them if you prefer. Avoid frozen strawberries, as they release too much moisture and won’t hold the coatings well. Smaller berries work, but larger berries provide a better balance of fruit to topping.

The Three Coatings

These strawberries get three layers: marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crumbs.

  • Marshmallow layer: Melt miniature marshmallows briefly in the microwave until gooey. Work quickly to dip each strawberry about three-quarters of the way into the marshmallow. The marshmallow sets fast, so dip in small batches and reheat as needed.
  • Chocolate layer: Use dark chocolate melting wafers or a good-quality dark chocolate. Melt until smooth and dip the marshmallow-coated berries two-thirds of the way into the chocolate, letting excess drip off.
  • Graham cracker crumbs: While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle on a generous amount of graham cracker crumbs so they adhere and provide that classic s’mores crunch and flavor.

S’mores Dipped Strawberries

These S’mores Dipped Strawberries are a fun, flavorful twist on a summertime favorite. Juicy, ripe strawberries are transformed with layers of marshmallow, dark chocolate, and graham crumbs for an irresistible treat.

Ingredients

  • 8–10 large fresh strawberries, washed and patted dry
  • 3 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 1½ cups dark chocolate melting wafers (or good-quality dark chocolate)
  • ½ cup graham cracker crumbs

Instructions

  1. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease the parchment so the strawberries don’t stick. Set aside.
  2. Place the miniature marshmallows in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds; they should appear puffy. Stir until smooth and gooey. Working quickly, dip each strawberry about 3/4 of the way into the marshmallow mixture. If the marshmallow begins to firm up, microwave for an additional 5–10 seconds to reheat. Place dipped berries on the prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for about 10 minutes to set the marshmallow layer.
  3. After the marshmallow layer sets, melt the dark chocolate wafers according to the package directions or until smooth. Dip each strawberry about 2/3 of the way into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off. Return berries to the baking sheet and immediately sprinkle with graham cracker crumbs so they stick to the wet chocolate. Let the chocolate harden before serving.
  4. Serve chilled or at room temperature. These are best enjoyed the same day they’re made for maximum freshness and texture.

Notes

You can scale up this recipe, but melt the marshmallows in smaller batches since the mixture hardens quickly. If you plan to prepare a large quantity, set up an assembly line: marshmallow dip, chill briefly, chocolate dip, and crumb topping.
