How to Make Oreo Spider Cookies for Halloween

Oreo Spiders are a simple, family-friendly Halloween treat that’s perfect for parties. Use pantry staples to create these playful cookies with kids or friends.

This recipe is a great activity for kids: they can break pretzels, dip legs in chocolate, and press on candy eyes. Older children can help melt and stir the chocolate and finish the legs for the “feet.”

Oreo Spider Cookies Ingredients

To make these Halloween cookies you’ll need simple ingredients (see the recipe card below for exact amounts):

  • Oreos: Peanut butter Oreos are used here, but classic or dark chocolate Oreos work too. Avoid thin varieties.
  • Chocolate chips: Dark chocolate is recommended, but milk or semi‑sweet chips are fine substitutes.
  • Pretzel sticks: Regular pretzel sticks halved create the spider legs. You can use small pretzel pieces, though they’re trickier to handle.
  • Reese’s Pieces (or candies): Halved Reese’s Pieces make quick eyes; you can also use M&Ms or candy eyes.

How to Make Oreo Spiders

  1. Arrange the Oreos on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 45 seconds, stir, then continue heating in 10–15 second bursts, stirring until fully melted.
  3. Dip the ends of four pretzel halves into the melted chocolate and press them gently into one side of an Oreo.
  4. Repeat on the other side with four more pretzel halves so each Oreo has eight legs.
  5. Attach legs to each Oreo using the melted chocolate to make a total of 24 spiders.
  6. Use a toothpick to spread a bit of melted chocolate on the cut side of two matching Reese’s Pieces halves and press them, cut-side down, onto the top of each Oreo for eyes.
  7. Repeat until each spider has two eyes.
  8. If the legs aren’t set, chill the tray in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes to firm them up.
  9. If the chocolate cools and hardens, reheat in 10–15 second increments until smooth again.
  10. Dip the bottom of each pretzel leg into chocolate to form the “feet,” then return the spiders to the baking sheet.
  11. Let the spiders cool and set: about 30 minutes at room temperature or 15 minutes in the refrigerator.

Storage Instructions

Store Oreo Spiders in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1–2 weeks. Note that pretzels may soften or become stale over time depending on humidity and contact with chocolate. Refrigeration is possible but may speed softening; freezing is not recommended.
