Mary’s Nest 2024 Channel Update: What’s New and What to Expect

Today I’m pleased to share my Mary’s Nest 2024 channel update video. In the video I outline plans for the Mary’s Nest YouTube channel and website, share a few updates, and mention a conference I’ll be speaking at this summer.

As I noted in previous newsletters, I delayed my 2024 kickoff video earlier this month due to family matters. In today’s update I cover what we accomplished last year and what I plan to share in upcoming recipe videos.

I’m excited about this year’s content and hope you are too.

Focus on Traditional Recipes

In the kickoff video I outline several recipe features planned for the year:

  • More traditional, nutrient-dense recipes and classic old-world favorites.
  • Larger food photos to guide you through each recipe’s steps.

I’ll demonstrate techniques that support maximum nutrient absorption so you and your family can enjoy healthier meals. Each recipe will be available in multiple formats so you can learn in the way that suits you best:

  1. Video – A walkthrough filmed in my kitchen.
  2. Recipe – Printable instructions for your kitchen journal.
  3. Blog post – Supplemental information and tips that complement the video and recipe.

Launching Videos on Thursdays

I initially planned to publish videos on Thursdays so you’d have time to gather ingredients for weekend cooking projects. After hearing from many of you, I decided to keep the original Saturday release schedule and the familiar thumbnail style to avoid disrupting your routine.

Kitchen Journal

Your Kitchen Journal is a core tool for building a traditional foods kitchen. I previously shared how to create one in this video.

Use your journal to record successes, challenges, ferment locations and temperatures, and any adjustments you make. You can also print and include favorite recipes from the web, which is handy if a source disappears online.

If you use the The Modern Pioneer Cookbook Curriculum to teach K–12 students lifelong cooking skills, kitchen journals are a perfect starting point. Jamie O’Hara shares how she created journals with her children in the curriculum’s lesson experiences.

Existing journal keepers can explore the free downloads on the website and print the templates that fit your needs.

The Modern Pioneer Cookbook

UPDATE: Thank you for helping my book, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook, become a bestseller. Penguin Random House sold out of the initial printing and ordered a second run that is appearing on bookstore shelves.

If you’re ready to transition from processed foods to traditional cooking, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook offers detailed recipes for bone broth, cultured dairy, ferments, sourdough, and more. It shows how simple ingredients and time-honored techniques can create nourishing meals the modern pioneer way.

Order My Bestselling Book, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook

If you already own the book, please consider leaving a review where you purchased it or on Goodreads. Your reviews help booksellers recommend the cookbook to others who want to learn traditional foods techniques.

NEW: Target now carries my cookbook in many stores. If you shop in person you may find it at a discounted price, and Target RedCard holders may receive an additional savings at checkout. To avoid extra trips, check stock availability on Target’s site before visiting stores.

Other Books I’m Reading

In the kickoff video I also mention two books I’ve been reading recently:

  • The Nourishing Asian Kitchen
  • The Made-from-Scratch Life: Your Get-Started Homesteading Guide

The Modern Homesteading Conference

I’m honored to be speaking at the 2024 Modern Homesteading Conference this summer. I hope some of you can attend so we can meet in person.
